Pushing

There's "Pushing" and there is "Pushy".  And there is so much I could say about Pushy people right now but I'll stay off that soap box for now.
But I want to talk about pushing and the fine line between pushing on, pushing forward,  fighting the good fight or trying to make things happen in your own strength. Because I feel sometimes if we have to fight that hard - we're either going the wrong way, or it's not God's timing for our lives.

Some times it is so hard for us to Stand and Wait.  We are in a time where we want it and we want it now.  I think I've shared before how our oldest Granddaughter at the age of 2 or 3 said "Nobody believes me I've gotta have it nooow!"  Well I think we have trouble growing out of that mentality.  See if we are standing in faith, believing God for direction and breakthrough, then until God speaks in our spirit to move then that's what we do "Stand"
Ephesians 6:10-13 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
I heard a speaker talk about how God is like a GPS - Continue forward until further notice.  See so many times we pray for God show us what to do.  Then when he's quiet - we think we need to make it happen ourselves.  Or we think that's not what God wants us to do, so we stop or give up.  Why do we struggle so much with the quiet times, why can't we just, relax in the assurance that God's got it under control?
Isaiah 40:31 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
(Eagles are very tenacious animals they will persevere even to their death)

Psalm 27:14  Wait patiently for the Lord.  Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
We do have patience it's one of the fruit of the spirit  - However like a muscle you need to use it.

Proverbs 3:5-6   Trust in the Lord with all your heart;  do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do,  and he will show you which path to take.

And one of my favorites:

Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Gods way is definitely better than mine - So I really want Him in the drivers seat of my life!

So take some time to stop and evaluate if you are pushing to fight the good fight or are you pushing  your own agenda.

Have a great weekend - Blessings,   Lynn

Marriage - What's it to - You?

Everyone has opinions on what marriage is or should be - and those vary widely.  But I guess a better question would be "What do you want your marriage to be"?  Do you want it to be a partnership?  Do you want it to be a friendship?  Do you want both? See there will be stages in marriage, it will change with time. When you first think about getting married are you caught up in the fairy tale?  Oh they're so dreamy.  Then after you've been married awhile you realize they have just as many hang ups as you.  The marriage isn't perfect - wanna know why - cause you are there.  :)  Okay now I'm not a scholar and don't have a degree in relationships, nor have I been married 50 years.  But as of today I've been married 16 years.  And though some may think it strange that my husband and I spend all our time together, we truly do enjoy each other and want to spend our time together. It's not that we don't do things with others but we really enjoy each other. He is my best friend.   But let's look and see what God has to say about Marriage.  There is the part where God told wives to be submissive to their husbands.  So many struggle with this, but I want to give you a different look at this and hopefully when I'm done - you will want to give this submissive thing a try. :)
Colossians 3:18  Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. (nlt)
1 Peter 3:1 In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over. (nlt)
Ephesians 5:22-24  For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. (nlt)

What most women don't understand is that as the husband is the head of the house, he is also responsible for it - and if you are submitting to his authority, as long as he is not going against God, you're covered.  But what does that coverage mean?  I'm going to show you that.

Ephesians 5:25-33:
25-28 Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor—since they’re already “one” in marriage.
29-33 No one abuses his own body, does he? No, he feeds and pampers it. That’s how Christ treats us, the church, since we are part of his body. And this is why a man leaves father and mother and cherishes his wife. No longer two, they become “one flesh.” This is a huge mystery, and I don’t pretend to understand it all. What is clearest to me is the way Christ treats the church. And this provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife, loving himself in loving her, and how each wife is to honor her husband. (msg)
Colossians 3:19  Husbands, go all out in love for your wives. Don’t take advantage of them. (msg)

I once heard an explanation on what "Covering" means.  We talk about "Gotcha Covered" and it could mean, I'll back you up, I'll pay for you, I'll protect you... But when God instructs Husbands to COVER their Wives as Jesus covered the church... You better take a double take on that.  When Jesus covers you not only did he give his life (and I'm sure husbands would for their wife/families) but notice Jesus never did anything that tore someone down.  He never did anything that made someone else feel less than. He treated them with respect, he lifted them up.  Even the woman at the well that had had several relationships, he did not make her feel like she was less than in his eyes.  That is what Covering your bride should be.

I see so many people get caught up in movie star lives and they want to model their marriage and relationships after them... but I ask - How's that working for you?  I think about all the reality shows on couples and there is only one left that I can think of that did a show about their life and it hasn't ended in divorce.  Hmm  Do you really want what they have?  Look to a marriage that has withstood a storm.  Look to a marriage where the people are happy where they want to spend time together.  It's one thing to love each other but I think it's important to like each other too.  Find a role model that will make the marriage work.

Proverbs 31 Is a great guide to what a great wife should be and do. It's who I want to model myself after. (click the link) See times are different - But God's design is still the same.

Ephesians 5:21 Out of respect for Christ, be courteously reverent to one another.

This is the person that you swore to God that you would love, honor and obey- so I ask - Is what you're doing Honorable in the sight of God?

Have a Blessed Day everyone - Enjoy your spouse if you have one - I'm going to go spend time with my best friend.  Blessings, Lynn

Spiritual Prepping 102

Last week I shared that an ounce of prevention was worth a pound of cure, and I gave the warning acronym of HALT.  This week I want share with you some tips on prepping in areas that affect us individually.  We each have our own personalities and weaknesses that the devil will use to trip us up, but we also have the "Storms" in life that come and try to over take us. See at different times in our life we will have different battles that we will need to overcome. And I say over come because God told us we are over comers. in Romans 8:37  Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
So what battle are you dealing with right now?  Are you in need of healing? Could you use a little more money from paycheck to paycheck? We each need to build up our spiritual bank accounts before we can use  our spiritual atm cards. But aren't you glad that God is so merciful that he give us mercy and grace and favor even when we don't build up those accounts with Him. However, I think to truly go deeper, to really get the great results, we need to dig in and do a little work.  :)   And it actually is very easy to make a deposit.  See God gave us His word. And in His word there are all kinds of promises. So now our part is to know what those promises are.  I can buy all kinds of groceries and put them away and if you come to my house and don't look in my cupboards you could go hungry. ( Not really - I always offer food) But I feel where we all miss our ship coming in, is not knowing and claiming what we have.  In fact God said my people perish for a lack of knowledge. (paraphrased).  Our part is very easy - we read it - we receive it and believe it... God's part was hard. He gave his Son to die for us so that we could have this. That's like someone buying you a slice of chocolate cake with ice cream on top and you just walking by and not eating it.  Unless you don't like chocolate you'd be all over that.  I mean you wouldn't want to offend them by not being a gracious receiver right?  I know I was being funny - but in a serious tone here - How much do we offend God because we don't graciously receive His Son?  Ouch that was a little of a stab huh? See that borders pleasing people more that our Creator.  I'm not saying you can't eat the cake... :)  eat it and enjoy it - but of course thank God for it too.
Now I got off track of where I thought I was going with this but maybe God had point He wanted to make so I will leave that there.
What I want to share now is a few scriptures that you can use for specific areas that you want to work on.  I feel it is best to get to know scriptures before a storm hits but starting anywhere is better than not starting at all. So pick a topic that is dear to you  or a storm in your life right now and I encourage you to look up scriptures pertaining to that issue.  There are so many wonderful websites out there that you can use to look up topical scriptures. Then start confessing these scriptures daily, hourly whatever until you get your breakthrough.  But just START..  Even if all you can say is "Thank you Jesus by your stripes I'm healed"  it's a start.  Here are some scriptures:

Healing: 1 Peter 2:24, James 5:14-16, Psalm 6:2, John 10:10, Psalm 119:50, Psalm 103:2-3

Marriage: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7  The love walk.  Really if you get this down - you got it.  :)  But here's a couple more.  Proverbs 18:22, Ephesians 5:22-33 (if you really understand the submission thing, it's a good thing not a bad thing.)

Prosperity:  Philippians 4:19,  2 Corinthians 9:8, Malachi 3:10, Proverbs 28:25, and a personal favorite Jeremiah 29:11.

Alright now, this is where the rubber hits the road so to speak.  I wanted to enable and post all the scriptures, but we really need to start taking action for ourselves.  We can "Complain and remain or praise and be raised" quote from Joyce Meyer or like My hubby and I say "If it's important to you, you'll take care of it, if it's not you won't".   The bottom line is if you want something to change - then you need to change something.
Dig into God's word get to know it now and then when a storm hits you can quote it from your heart without really thinking about it. Then you can do like I said in a different post, say - "God - You Said ......
Hope you have a Blessed day.    Lynn

PS  So many people are being displaced right now due to fires... Pray for them and the many firefighters that are working to put the fires out.  Thanks.

Spiritual Prepping 101

Well last week I talked about the Perfect Storm and Doomsday Preppers. Today I want to talk about Spiritual Prepping, which I think is way more important. Have you heard the saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"? Well I feel there is a lot of truth in that saying.  So knowing your weaknesses and your triggers and being honest with yourself about them, to me is that ounce of prevention.  1 Peter 5:8 says  "Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour".  See the Devil knows your weaknesses and what buttons to push, he knows how to temp each of us - So Being honest with ourselves is Huge.
Someone developed the acronym H-A-L-T, as warning signs of when you are weakest.  (sorry don't know who to give credit to).
Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired

So breaking that down a little.

Hungry - Well my husband can tell you that there is a certain point of hunger that once crossed I start loosing my Rosy disposition.  I have learned over the years to deal with that much better - but the point is when we are hungry it can take the focus off of where we want to be emotionally.  See when we are out of fuel, we are tempted to eat food we shouldn't.  It is also that way with spiritual hunger.  John 6:35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty

Angry - I heard a story once, the lady talked about how sometimes we get mad, at our spouse, and boy they really have ticked us off. And we know that we should get over it and we should forgive, but we're entitled to be mad - we deserve our mad. And at the end of the day what have we really gotten - maybe a little less respect from the one we love.... See her husband joking or not had told some one that they had been married 38 years, and it was the best 4 years of his life. That really made her stop and take a look at how their life really was.  It's a story I may have told before, but one that I always remember. So I may tell again.  Ephesians 4:26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil
Anger can make us do and say things we regret - knowing that ahead of time and being  honest with ourselves about that can help us to not go there.

Lonely - Wow I could write a book about this one - there is emotional loneliness, physical loneliness,.. People that are alone either physically or in their mind are prone to people pleasing and manipulation.  And the devil is oh so happy to put manipulating people in your life that will push those buttons. Insecurities, seeking others approval, can lead you to all sorts of wrong places in your life. If this is your weakness, knowing that ahead of time can help you to stand against it.  Galatians 1:10 Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.    Romans 12:2   Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect

Tired - When we are tired our defenses are down. We can be goofy,  grumpy or just plain not alert at all. When we are tired that's when we are tempted to just give up, give in.  But God says "Come to me all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest" (paraphrased)  Matthew 11:28-30.
John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
Galatians 6:9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

See the devil loves it if he can get us to give up.  But God has made a way out for us; 1 Corinthians 10:13  The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.  Give that a little test, if you pay attention next time you are tempted - there is this little path out, a hurdle, a delay, a road block.

Two of my favorite Scriptures:
John 10:10  The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

So Spiritual Prepping - Where do you start?   Assessing your situation. Are you lacking financially, are you struggling with your weight or do you need healing?  Identify your triggers and weak spots, if you struggle with your weight, having a bible study at a donut shop may not be your best choice.  I know that was a given but you get my point.  Next start looking up scriptures that are specific to what you want to change.  God has covered it all - I mean it ALL.  There is nothing Jesus didn't cover on the cross.

Next post I'll dig a little deeper in building ourselves up in specific areas.  Learning to build up our spiritual bank account. In the mean time start looking those scriptures up!  :)  Have a Blessed Day!

The Perfect Storm and Doomsday Preppers

What is the "Perfect Storm"?  The answer to that is different to all of us and it is even different to us at different tines in our life.  It totally depends on your emotional and spiritual maturity. At  4 the perfect storm that rocks your boat, is someone taking the toy you were playing with, or having to take a nap.  At 14 it may be not getting asked to the dance, or getting a bad report card. At 24, 34, 44... it may be losing a job, not being accepted or acknowledged, struggling with addictions, not having a spouse, having a spouse, not having a place to stay or food to eat, or maybe a bad report from the doctor, or the loss of a loved one. And at that moment your life can come crashing down. The world as you know it whirls and stops all at the same time. And the world as you have known it, will forever be different. It may be hard to adjust, but it doesn't mean it won't be good. If fact even though it feels like the "Perfect Storm" that has forever ruined your life, God can take (and will) the rubble of your former life and create a new one that is far better than you ever imagined.
Isaiah 61:3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness,  a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Okay now you ask what does this have to do with Doomsday Preppers.  Everything!  I see and have watched a few of those shows about doomsday prepping. and all though I don't totally agree with what they are doing - I don't totally disagree either.  In Matthew 6 God tells us to not store up riches here on this earth, that instead we are to store up our riches in heaven.

Matthew 6:19-21    “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

So now to explain how to store up riches in heaven and the part of the prepping I agree with.  I agree that we need to prep. I just feel we need to do it differently.  I'm not saying it's not a good thing to have an emergency kit ready - But I think even more than that we need to have one of God's emergency kits.  So just as the preppers start collecting we need to start collecting.  They collect a blanket, we collect God's Word. See God's word is our weapon. But how do we use it if we don't know it's there.  That's like going to work and thinking you don't have your lunch and your spouse actually put it in your car but didn't tell you. So you go hungry because you didn't know it was there.
2 Corinthians 10 1:6 Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

God gives us a way to prep for everything we need and every obstacle the devil throws at us.  But we need to know Gods word and Gods solution BEFORE the storm hits.  We can't wait until the bill collector comes knocking at our door to start tithing and building up our prosperity. We can't wait until we get a bad report from the doctor to start looking up scriptures on healing. We can't wait until the devil is tormenting us emotionally into anxiety and depression before we start learning that God's peace surpasses all understanding.  Philippians 4:7.  See that's the Perfect Storm - being unprepared when the storm hits. We can be unprepared, and Gods mercy will rescue us, but it is so much better to be a Spiritual Prepper and have our weapons ready when the storm hits.

We are more than conquers through Christ who strengthens us... lets start acting like it.  I would like to do a couple more posts about this with some specific areas of Spiritual Prepping.  So Unless God puts it on my heart to post something else, I'll see you back here with "Spiritual Prepping 101" next week.
Have a Blessed Day!
